Friday 13th Club is now on Facebook, Twitter and Linked In
13th June 2011Friday 13th networking group has fully embraced the power of social media and connected with members, friends and the rest of the business world through the suite of Facebook, Twitter and Linked In.
During the excitement of branding our own accounts, finding all our business friends online and joining in the rigorous online discussions the question has been raised: Is social media right for Friday 13th Group?
We whole heartedly believe it is. We are fundamentally a social group and we offer better services through growing a strong social network in the Midlands business community. As a relatively new networking group with an "alternative networking” ethos Friday 13th Club has the advantage of being very adaptable in the way we find and connect to our clients, members and referrers. We alread rely on and view Linked In as essential for our work. Facebook and Twitter are less guided in their use for businesses but already they provide solutions to several issues we have come across: How can we share the excellent photos of our Friday 13th it’s a Knockout event with all our guests who took part? We now have a Friday 13th Facebook page with unlimited pictures which are free for everyone to view. What’s the best way of keeping our members up dated with the latest news of our events? Tweet them on our specially designed twitter accounts.
However, one thing we strongly believe is that with all its merits, social media can never replace the importance of meeting people in person, although it can certainly facilitate the introduction and is en excellent tool for spreading the word of events.
So currently we are enthusiastic about social media and expect it to help grow Friday 13th group in 2011 and beyond but we can’t help wonder...Is social media a fad or a revolution?
We could delve into a very lengthy theoretical discussion on this matter but in reality only time will tell. That said, so far the overwhelming statistics do suggest revolution! : 96% of Generation Y have joined a social media network, More than 1.5 million pieces of content (web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photos, etc.) are shared on Facebook…daily. 80% of companies use Linked In as their primary tool for sourcing new candidates.
It takes 38 years to reach 500million radio users, 13 years to reach TV users, 4 to reach internet users…. But Facebook added 100 million users in less than 9 months and twitter has 200million registered users (and growing) and 110 million tweets a day.
One thing we know that can be off-putting about Facebook, Twitter and Linked In is the bombardment of irrelevant posts and promotions, so we have segmented our online presence into specific purpose groups which we hope our users will only find useful.
